Presenting Research on Children’s Wonder in Finland

In the first week of May, our colleague Markéta Supa visited Finland to present at the IX Conference in Childhood Studies. She shared ongoing research exploring the intersection of wonder and time in children’s everyday information experiences.

Her trip began in Helsinki with a two-day meeting of the Children and Placemaking Collective, followed by a journey to Joensuu for the IX Conference in Childhood Studies.

At the conference, the Collective hosted a panel titled Non-linear time in children’s lives. The session brought together diverse research projects to explore a central question: what might become possible if we take children’s unique temporalities seriously?

As part of this panel, Markéta introduced her ongoing analysis of focus group data from the project. Her talk delved into the intersection of wonder and time, examining how these elements shape children’s everyday experiences with factual information and how they navigate their own pacing when learning about the world.

The collaborative panel showcased a wide range of perspectives and was co-presented alongside an international group of scholars, including Rebekah Willett, Kristiina Kumpulainen, Harini Rajagopal, Jenny Byman, Layla Coleman, Jacqueline Kociubuk, Jenny Renlund, and Chin Chin Wong.
